Solomont tapped as ambassador to Spain

Alan Solomont (A ’70), a Tufts trustee and a fundraising czar for President Obama’s 2008 campaign, was nominated by the White House on Thursday as ambassador to Spain. If confirmed, Solomont will run the embassy in Madrid, representing the United States in diplomatic, cultural and economic interactions there while providing support to Americans in Spain. Greek life director leaves Tufts for Florida position

Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Patrick Romero-Aldaz announced today that he will be leaving his position at Tufts at the end of August for a similar post at the University of South Florida. "While I’m excited at this new opportunity with a broader scope and level of responsibility, my departure is also bittersweet," Romero-Aldaz said in an e-mail to Tufts' Inter-Greek Council.  He will be directing the Office of Fraternity and Sorority life at the University of South Florida. Romero-Aldaz was brought on as Tufts' Greek life director in May of 2007, filling a post that had been vacant for nearly a year. Olympian Kwan opts for Fletcher over skating

Michelle Kwan announced on Friday that she will not compete in the 2009-10 skating season, foregoing hopes of making the 2010 Vancouver Olympics in favor of pursuing a graduate degree at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Kwan, "the most decorated figure in U.S. history," according to the U.S. Figure Skating Association, has won 43 championships and two Olympic medals, including a silver in 1998 and a bronze medal in 2002. Kwan will enter Fletcher full-time next year in pursuit of a master's degree in international affairs.
