Jumbo painted and tainted
10/26/08 4:43 PM
It looks like some students made Jumbo into an active participant in this weekend's revelry.
As of this morning, the elephant statue outside of Barnum Hall was wearing some striking graffiti on his flanks.
There appears to be a bit of Greek pride involved in this one (unless somebody's decided to frame a number of Tufts football and baseball players). The Delta Upsilon emblem was splattered prominently across Jumbo's side, with "DU rules" written next to it.
Perhaps a police brief on this Greek garnish is forthcoming? Check Tuesday's paper to find out--or just to get caught up on some of the weekend's other shenanigans.

Snake on the loose in Latin Way
10/24/08 6:06 PM
The Office of Residential Life and Learning sent out an e-mail this afternoon to students living in Latin Way informing them that a snake is on the loose in their residence hall. According to ResLife officer Carrie Ales, a Latin Way resident who owns a pet snake left the animal's cage open, allowing the snake to escape. But Ales, ResLife's assistant director of community and judicial affairs, did not specify when this happened or how long the snake has been on the loose. Univeristy policy prohibits students from keeping pets in their rooms, excepting only "approved service animals or fish in tanks no larger than 10 gallons," according to "Habitats," the school's official guide to on-campus living. Tufts University Police Department officers said they had no knowledge...Kerry criticizes McCain's campaign tactics, calls Obama's inexperience a 'virtue'
10/22/08 10:06 PM
Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) preached the importance of multilateral foreign policy -- and the strengths of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) -- at his lecture in the packed Cabot Auditorium earlier this evening. Afterward, we caught up with the Senator for an exclusive interview about his take on the 2008 campaign. Kerry delivered a prepared address, reading off of teleprompters, on what he sees as the foreign policy of the future. In his talk, he stressed the importance of new diplomatic efforts, soft-power foreign policy and a renewed focus on what he sees as related issues: energy and the environment. But with Election Day less than two weeks away, his speech included no shortage of campaign lines, and was harshly critical of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) --...John Kerry to speak on campus today
10/22/08 9:15 AM
With just under two weeks to go until Election Day, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), the unsuccessful Democratic presidential contender from 2004 who is now fighting for his own re-election, will make a stop at Tufts today for the annual Fletcher Political Forum. Kerry will speak from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Cohen Auditorium on the topic "Challenges in A Changing World," and will take questions from the audience afterward. His appearance on campus comes just days after Kerry became embroiled in election controversy, making national headlines for a joke he made at a fundraiser. During an off-the-cuff discussion about politicians being asked trivial questions on the campaign trail, he said: "Barack got asked the famous boxers or briefs question. I was tempted to say commando. Then...Interview | Shapanka discusses return of embezzled funds
10/6/08 2:41 AM
Today's segment of Tufts Daily Radio featured an interview with Tufts Community Union Treasurer Matt Shapanka, who waxed financial about the return of funds taken during the OSA embezzlement scandal.
