The Daily sits down with PleaseDressMe.com founder AJ Vaynerchuk
10/30/08 9:17 AM
In the time of the digital information age, Web 2.0 Start-ups are prevalent; not all of them can make it big, but AJ Vaynerchuk has found how to make it work. Along with his brother Gary (known for WineLibraryTV) and friends, AJ started PleaseDressMe.com. This website indexes tee shirt retailers all over the net, and makes it easy to find the shirt you are looking for. Shirts are tagged with descriptive words, and can be sorted by price. This is something truly exciting, since nothing like this has been done before; retailers such as Busted Tees , Threadless , and Snorg Tees have embraced this service, which already covers over 950 shirts. The impressive part is that AJ is a senior at BU, and has already made his name...Living it up: Your guide to an arts-filled weekend

10/24/08 3:41 PM
All day yesterday Freida Lee Mock, writer and director of the 1995 Academy Award winning film “Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision” (1994) spent her time with Tufts students and faculty answering questions about filmmaking. This afternoon she sat in the Ex College conference room asking interestedly about students’ projects, offering advice, and speaking from her own experience. Student filmmakers spoke to their ideas and projects, asking questions from “What’s the best way to conduct an interview?” to “How did you decide that you wanted to make films?” Mock was humble and kind in her answers, and she encouraged students to come up with ideas and work out what it is they want to do, promoting the “strong clear vision” so embodied by...WMFO DJ Spotlight: Rory And Rebecca
10/14/08 11:26 PM
It’s midnight on a Tuesday, and while most Tufts students are huddled over textbooks in Tisch, sophomores Rebecca Goldberg and Rory Clark are donning headphones and giggling about Tom Hanks. They’ve packed an impressive seven or so people into the cozy WMFO station for their two-hour radio segment entitled “Nothing If Not Classy.” The small room is buzzing with activity as Rebecca cues the first song and Rory leans over her laptop to call out “We already have seven requests!” They serve up a soothing mix of indie tunes from the likes of Belle and Sebastian, Empire, Metric, Spoon, and many others. The two DJs take turns selecting songs for a spontaneous and fast-paced flow. “Play number 11…no, number 17!” Rory says to Rebecca...Living it up: Your guide to an arts-filled weekend

10/8/08 12:16 PM
As flashes of colored lights glint in the gilded interior trim of the Somerville Theatre like reflections from stained glass, five voices harmonize in a way that can only be described as angelic. Faces in the audience gaze in rapture, some swaying. Last night's Fleet Foxes concert was more than just a performance. In the words breathed by one glowing listener as she left the theater, "it was an epiphany." New to the indie scene, Seattle-based quintet Fleet Foxes released their self-titled first album in the beginning of June 2008. Over the summer they received rave reviews and were compared to such greats as The Beach Boys and Animal Collective. From the pauses in their performance, it seemed clear that the Foxes are still naïve to their budding fame, still charmingly...Arts Editors’ Mixtape | October 2008
