Each week, The Scene offers artsy commentary on last week's Top 5 most played albums on WMFO. 1) "Tonight: Franz Ferdinand" by Franz Ferdinand: The first album from Scottish dance-rockers Franz Ferdinand since 2005’s well-received "You Could Have It So Much Better," "Tonight: Franz Ferdinand" (2009) follows a loose concept of a night of partying and the morning after. Generally viewed as the band’s most complete work to date, "Tonight: Franz Ferdinand "also saw the group incorporating new musical influences, including Jamaican reggae. 2) "From Broadway to Paris" by Count Basie and Benny Goodman: Released in 1973, this double-LP set combined two jazz giants of the big-band era. Pianist...Limp Bizkit Reunites

In the wake of the reunion of Blink-182, more bands are sure to come back together. In a surprise announcement after 8 years on hiatus, Limp Bizkit is back. The original members are coming back together to do some touring overseas before returning to the States for a new album and tour. But why did these metal-rappers decided to return now? "We decided we were more disgusted and bored with the state of heavy popular music than we were with each other. Regardless of where our separate paths have taken us, we recognize there is a powerful and unique energy with this particular group of people we have not found anywhere else. This is why Limp Bizkit is back." said Fred Durst and Wes Borland in a statement to the press. So if you were if all about the "Nookie" back in the...WMFO Top Five

Here's a rundown of the five most-played albums on WMFO last week with commentary by music editor Joshua Zeidel. 1) "Sgt. Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band" (1967) by The Beatles: The 8th Beatles album, regarded by many as one of the most influential LP’s in rock and roll, was released in the summer of 1967. The first album from the Beatles following their decision to cease touring permanently, "Sgt. Pepper" features some of the Beatles’ most famous later work, including “With a Little Help from My Friends,” “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” and, of course, the title track itself. 2) "Mercurial" (2009) by The Under: Formed in 2006, Boston-area power-trio...Viral Video of the Week

Once a week, the Arts Department selected the most contagious web video. Yes, even the "Shoes" youtube video was art. Hypnotized Cupcake Dog If you don't watch the E! Network show "The Soup" you should. Basically, it summarizes all of the ridiculous moments in reality and news TV so you don't have to watch it all. This clip features a scene from the Animal Planet show "It's Me or the Dog" in which a trainer helps people cope with unruly pets. Think "Supernanny" for your dog. The premise is simple: Stains the dog likes to eat human food, so trainer Victoria Sitwell trains the dog to "stay" when presented with a tasty treat. When practicing the command, hilarity ensues. The video has all the basic qualities of a great video; cute...WMFO Top Five

1) "Calico" by Gravehaven: These as-yet unsigned Boston-area indie-rockers took their music in a new, more folky direction with the 2008 release of "Calico," their debut LP. They performed a full live set on-air at the WMFO studios on January 28th. 2) "Day and Age" by The Killers: The most recent offering from Las Vegas synth-rockers The Killers, "Day & Age," represents a continuation of their sophomore effort, "Sam’s Town." Influences on the writing of this album include Elton John, Lou Reed, and this week’s fellow WMFO top-fivers MGMT and David Bowie. 3) "Oracular Spectacular" by MGMT: The first major-label studio album from indie rockers...January Mixtape

Naomi: "In Amber" from Laughter's Fifth (2005) by Love as Laughter - I find myself listening to this song over and over not because it's an example of musical perfection, but because it's easy to sing along with, has a nice beat, and manages to be chill without making me sleepy. Cat: "This is Your Life" from "Day and Age" (2008) by The Killers - No band gets me on my feet and dancing like The Killers. This song combines The Killers' love of catchy beats and phrases with their overly smart and optimistic lyrics to produce an exhilarating single that is uniquely theirs. Matt: "Daylight" from "Grand" (2009) by Matt & Kim - Matt and Kim are the epitome of the cutesy indie couple that make sweet jams together. Their second album...
