Have Safe Makeup!
10/28/08 10:42 AM
I’m a big fan of NARS, which is actually saying something because it’s a line I’ve never worked for. If you’re getting a little head start on your holiday shopping and want something sexy yet useful for that special someone, look no further than NARS Safer Set or Safest Set. The Safer Set ($37, Sephora) includes NARS’ infamous The Multiple stick in Orgasm, the legendary bestselling shade of blush, lip gloss and nail polish. To make your orgasm safer, NARS includes two condoms. The Safest Set ($37, Sephora) includes The Multiple in Orgasm and a little black book with tips on ways no say no – after all, the safest sex is no sex. P.S. A portion of proceeds will benefit Amfar’s worldwide initiatives to promote safe sex education. An orgasm and a...Sensuality reigns supreme at Derek Lam
10/19/08 10:25 PM
Relative newcomer Derek Lam sure made a splash at NYC Fashion Week last month. He showed a gorgeous collection full of jumpsuits, nude palettes and easy silhouettes. Lam told style.com that his show was "totally about sensuousness." He was right; the clothes draped beautifully, making each model look like an effortlessly-chic New York woman. Every piece was something I would want to wear. Detailing such as pleats and ruffles decorated each of the looks. Drawstring waists were dominant, as were jumpsuits. Perhaps this trend will finally catch on in mainstream fashion? Personally, I'm a fan. The color palette was intriguing - bright orange and yellow piece punctuated blacks and beiges. The contrast proved unique, even amidst the abundance of color in the past few...Seeing double: Givenchy vs. Steve Madden
10/15/08 7:26 PM
If it weren't for the difference in photography, would you even be able to tell which is which? On top, we have the Givenchy booties that were a celeb fave all summer long (Gwyneth Paltrow, Selita Ebanks, Lauren London, etc.) They cost about $1000 when available. Below, we have Steve Madden's "Ginn" booties for $169.95, avilable in black or bronze leather. This may be one of the best look-alikes I've ever seen - same number of straps, same number of studs, same heel height. The only giveaway is the different buckle around the ankle. These shoes really do go with any outfit. They look very on-trend with mini dresses, complement skinny jeans perfectly, and are a great way to anchor your sumer dress with tights in cooler weather. Perhaps it's the balance between tough and sexy...Who will win Project Runway?
10/9/08 8:32 PM
SPOILERS AHEAD - do not read unless you've already seen last night's episode of PR or unless you don't watch the show anyway. Next week's the season finale, in which the Top Six designers (Kenley, Leanne, Korto, Jerrell, Suede, Joe) will show their collections at Bryant Park, but only three (the ladies) will compete for the grand prize. Since NYC Fashion Week actually happened about a month ago, the pictures of all six collections have been floating around for a while now. Once I saw those pictures, I was hoping that the three females would be in the top, becuase frankly, all of the males' collections fell seriously flat. Jerrell's collection, like his bridal gown, was overworked, overdone, "garish" and incohesive. His bedazzled asymmetrical mini dress that opened the show...Lust affair: YSL's upcoming it boots
10/8/08 11:16 AM

When I saw this detail shot from Yves Saint Laurent's Spring/Summer 2009 RTW show, my heart skipped a beat.
Brilliant. Unique. Artistic. Architectural. Intriguing. Uncomfortable. All the ingredients for a perfect shoe, right?
I excitedly showed the picture to my dear friend David, who promptly said, "Ew." Further proof in my eyes that these are simply fabulous.
Hurry up, Topshop. I want a great knock-off stat!

Jonathan Saunders for Target: Not worth writing home about
10/6/08 4:56 PM
I love Target. As a Canadian, I didn't grow up with the megastore at my disposal, so since coming to Tufts, I've been sure to visit monthly. At least. One of my favourite departments, of course, is the clothing. I especially love checking out the guest designers; I got a great top from the Richard Chai collection and I'm still cherishing my falling-apart Proenza Schouler collection shirt. What this means is that I, more than most, was eagerly awaiting Jonathan Saunders' Target collaboration. His mini t-shirt collection for Topshop last year was very cute, his runway collection is full of great color and shapes, so why not? Something was lost in the translation from high fashion to mainstream fashion. Maybe... sophistication? Look at an image from his current namesake collection. You...At Diane von Furstenberg, “dare to be you”
10/5/08 6:15 PM
The theme of Diane von Furstenberg’s Spring 2009 show was Rock Goddess. “It’s me when I was 20,” the designer says. “It’s the freedom of mixing… the freedom of being you.” The autobiographical touches and references to swinging sixties were undeniable. Touché. The collection was a bit like a Cliff’s Notes to the past few seasons in fashion. Lace dress? Got it. Menswear inspirations? Got ‘em too. Florals? Yep. Belted waists? Of course! Jumpsuits? Got one. Harem pants? Got those. Ruffles? Oh yeah. Sequins? You betcha. While this somewhat extreme diversity did take away from the collection’s overall cohesiveness, it made for a very fun, exciting show. The bold colors and prints were classic Diane, as...Seeing double: Topshop vs. Miu Miu
10/2/08 10:10 PM
When I came across this dress [left] in the “What’s New” section on the Topshop web site (I check it almost daily), my first thought was “that would be a really cute dress without the white shirt part.” And then it occurred to me that I was right, because the Topshop dress without the white shirt part is a Miu Miu dress [right] from Spring/Summer 2008 collection. Granted, the Miu Miu version is a bit more of a shirt than a dress, the waistline is higher, and the volume is turned up, but the influence is undeniable. I’m actually not a big fan of the Miu Miu collection in question, although I did love the sexy-sweet contrasts and the adorable neckties. Topshop does a good job of updating the silhouette for real life, but the white is...Want to go to a fashion show? Like, right now?
10/2/08 5:51 PM
I've been checking my Google Reader obsessively for the past few weeks to follow the chronicles of the fashion elite as they travel from NYC to London to Milan to Paris. I was able to go to my first real, live fashion show at Bryant Park last year - something of a religious experience for me - and I've been dying for another hit of fresh couture. Thankfully, I just found it. Viktor & Rolf, the avant-garde Dutch design duo, did not put on a show this year... well, at least not in the traditional sense. Instead, they created a virtual fashion show with Shalom Harlow as the sole model wearing each of the 21 looks. The result is simply amazing; you get a better seat than Anna Wintour! And as for the collection? I was very impressed. I think the safest way to break it down is in the...
