1/4/09 9:42 PM

Tufts alum Gov. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.) today withdrew his name from consideration for Commerce secretary in the incoming Obama administration due to allegations stemming from a federal grand jury investigation in New Mexico. President-elect Barack Obama said in a statement that he accepted Richardson’s resignation “with deep regret,” praising the governor and pledging to provide...

A Tufts student was allegedly the victim of an unarmed robbery near Davis Square on Monday night. A man approached senior Jake Maccoby on Holland Street in Somerville, purportedly taking his phone and earphones. The incident occurred between Orleans Restaurant and Bar and a park at Simpson Avenue, Maccoby told me this evening. “This guy was huge, he was really big,” said Maccoby, who is also an editorialist for the Daily and the outgoing president of the Inter-Greek Council. “I couldn’t tell whether he had a weapon.” The man originally approached Maccoby after seeing earphones protruding from his shirt pocket, Maccoby said.
