Baumwoll wins blow-out election

Dave Baumwoll will step in next term as the President of the TCUSenate for the 2004-5 year. The sophomore won in a landslide overjunior Joe Mead.

Close to 30 percent of undergraduate students voted in theelections, down about 10 percent from last year. 1623 students castballots. Baumwoll received 73 percent with 1184 votes, while Meadtook 430. The remaining nine votes were people casting "blankballots," ELBO Chair Abby Lillianfeld said.

"I'm so ecstatic right now," Baumwoll said last night. "It wasclean, and I couldn't have asked for a better election. We ranbased on merit, and the elections were completely based onmerit."

Baumwoll said his plans for the rest of the year include gettingthe senate situated with in-house elections, and implementing hisACT plan, one of his campaign platforms.

Although disappointed with the results, Mead had only kind wordsabout the election process. "I think it was a well-foughtcampaign," he said. "A campaign without mud-slinging, one withoutcheating."

Mead still plans to be involved with Tufts issues for thefollowing year. He will try to become a Trustee Representative onthe Senate. "On a side note, I'm talking to Joe Curtatone," hesaid. "Over the summer I'll be working for the Somerville mayor'soffice to better connections between the community and Tufts."

"The bottom line is I'll never stop working for Tufts," Meadsaid.

Baumwoll complimented Mead on his campaign, and thanked thestudents who worked with him. "The people who helped me in thiscampaign were absolutely amazing," he said.
