Today is the end of April Open House, an event at Tufts for accepted students, or "pre-frosh." This week, a huge number of high school seniors came to Tufts to explore and get a feel for the atmosphere on campus.
Current students who run into pre-frosh often encourage them to choose Tufts. For those admitted students who do decide to come to the Hill, what kind of advice do their older and wiser Jumbos have to give?
Some students gave descriptions of Tufts' campus life. "Everyone is really encouraging and friendly with you in clubs and groups," sophomore Smita Deshmukh said.
Another student agreed that Tufts is a good place to get involved in a lot of activities, like sports. "It's really easy to join a team because Tufts is [Div. III], so you can basically walk on a team," freshman Jason Koza said.
A common theme among students was the diversity of student groups on campus. "The thing that stands out about Tufts is that there's something for everyone, whatever your interest is," sophomore Lily Motta said.
"I know everybody says that at every school, but at Tufts, it really is true," Motta added. "There's always some group or team to join, and everyone is always really accepting of new people."
Others shared similar views of mutual student support. "Your friends will come out and support you even if they're not into what you do," Deshmukh said.
Some students had advice for how the Class of 2009 should handle its initial arrival at Tufts in the fall.
"Spend as much time as you can during orientation getting to know the people who live with you in your dorm, because you end up getting really close," senior Laura Frye said. "I still hang out with people I met in my dorm my freshman year."
"Take the first month of school to meet a lot of people," Koza said. "That's the best time to do it because everyone is in the same spot, trying to make friends."
A few students offered very specific information about life at Tufts. "Our pool is terrible, so if you're a swimmer that's important to know," freshman Eric Connelly said.
"There is an atrocious lack of Diet Coke on this campus - it's all Pepsi," freshman Jordan Axelrad said. "It's horrendous."
