Mitch Robinson to take seat on TCU Senate

Junior Mitch Robinson emerged victorious from the Spring Special Elections Feb. 2, defeating fellow junior Andrew Caplan for a seat on the Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate.

Robinson will fill the seat vacated by Ivan Nurminsky, who, adherent to the Senate's bylaws, was forced to resign last semester due to poor meeting attendance.

Robinson defeated Caplan 114 to 36. Approximately 13 percent of the junior class voted in the election. ELBO attributed this small turnout to the large proportion of juniors currently studying abroad and the lack of an online ballot.

No online option was available for this special election, as a contract between the Elections Board and the University only allows for three online elections every year: fall general elections, spring general elections, and presidential elections.

The Elections Board, Programming Board, and the Office of Student Activities (OSA) are looking into working with an outside company in order to hold more online elections.

The elections were held Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Mayer Campus Center and were monitored by members of the TCU Elections Board (ELBO). Only students with Junior standing and a Tufts ID were eligible to cast votes.
