New info on Carmichael sex offender

A man working at Carmichael Dining Hall was removed from the facility by members of the Tufts University Police Department (TUPD) on Dec. 2. The action occurred after the Quincy Police Department announced that it was issuing a warrant for the man due to his failure to register with them as a sex offender, Captain Marc Keith of TUPD said.

Both TUPD and Dining Services were unwilling to release any specific information about the man.

According to Patti Lee Klos, Director of Dining and Business Services, the unidentified man had worked at Tufts in some capacity for a number of years and had committed a Level Three sexual offense sometime prior to that.

The warrant was issued because he changed his residence and failed to re-register with the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board (MSORB) through the Quincy Police Department.

Klos also said that the man is mentally handicapped and was provided to Tufts by the Vocational Advancement Center located in Brighton, Mass.

The center is a private non-profit agency that provides employment services to people with disabilities. A representative from the center declined to comment on the incident or the man's current employment status.

The MSORB defines a Level Three sex offender as someone whose "risk of re-offense is high and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active dissemination [of his personal information]."

The MSORB currently only lists one offender as working at the Vocational Advancement Center.
