Sexuality-related act of intolerance perpetrated in Wren Hall

On Sat., Feb. 11, an act of intolerance took place in the lobby of Wren Hall. One of six students waiting for a pizza delivery at 1:44 a.m. was verbally harassed by two males who walked into the building with a female student.

They "started calling this one student 'gay' and 'faggot,'" said Sergeant Robert McCarthy of the Tufts University Police Department (TUPD). "One of them then spit on this kid."

One of the two individuals has been identified as a student. The other, who spit on the student and asked him if he wanted to take a swing at him, has not yet been identified as a student.

The perpetrators seemed to aim their words and actions at just one student in particular of the six in the lobby. "There was one that, for some reason, they picked on," McCarthy said.

"The girl who was with them said, 'Oh, they're just drunk,'" he added.

The incident is currently being investigated by both TUPD and the Dean of Students' office.

Student exhibits aggression towards PIZZA delivery car

On Feb. 15 at 12:31 a.m. a student attacked a pizza deliveryman's car on Professors Row.

The deliveryman saw a person, who was later identified as a University student, "yelling and beating on his car" after exiting a cab down the street, McCarthy said.

The deliveryman's girlfriend was in the vehicle while the student was attacking it.

By the time TUPD arrived at the scene, the student had already entered his house.

A bystander saw which house the offender entered, however, and police were able to apprehend him.

Police informed the deliveryman that, if there were damages to his car, he would have to file a complaint to obtain reparations.

Break-in perpetrator apprehended

Between 9:19 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 13, an incident of breaking and entering occurred at an apartment building located at 15 Capen Street. The building is affiliated with Tufts but owned by Walnut Hill Realty.

TUPD responded to the report after the Medford Police Department.

Since September 2003, the building, which used to be Medford's Hillside School, has been home to junior faculty members at Tufts and low-income families from Medford. It contains 12 apartments.

The following morning at 9:40 a.m., TUPD arrested the person responsible for the breaking and entering. They "had an idea who it was and then they got a call" corroborating it, McCarthy said.

The perpetrator, who was arrested at 520 Boston Avenue, is not student. He is currently out on bail and has a court date.
