Selection process fills most of Sophia Gordon

According to the Office of Residential Life and Learning (ORLL), the majority of occupants for the new Sophia Gordon hall have been selected.

After pooling their lottery numbers and submitting their applications, those groups of applicants with the 25 highest lottery combinations were selected. Rooms were delegated in descending order of averages at a lottery on Feb. 17.

Demand for the slots in the residence hall was high, with a total of 73 applications filed to fill the 25 four-person suites, ORLL Director Yolanda King said. A total of 292 students - 285 seniors and seven juniors - expressed interest in the new hall.

The high demand was expected, King said.

"These numbers were expected as interest for the new hall has been very positive and well publicized," she said.

The rooms for four six-person suites - one all-female, one all-male and two co-ed - remain unclaimed. The rooms in these remaining suites will be filled during the housing lottery for seniors, which will take place Mar. 7.

King said she was still uncertain of what the housing picture would look like for the remainder of the class of 2007.

"We are currently assessing the on-going housing demand for the remaining seniors," she said.

A survey on the ORLL Web site that will run until Feb. 24 is seeking feedback on remaining seniors' housing plans. Then, "these results will be shared with the class of 2008 so they can continue to finalize their housing options for the upcoming year," King said.
