Visitor recieves 22 stitches after brawl with Zeta Psi brothers
In the early morning of Sat., Feb. 25, a Tufts student and his visitor were walking behind the Zeta Psi fraternity house at 80 Professors Row when "they got in an argument with some people on the back deck," Tufts University Police Department (TUPD) Sergeant Robert McCarthy said.
At 3:15 a.m., the two parties involved began talking, an exchange that escalated until one of the students on the porch threw a beer can at the two individuals who had been walking behind the house.
Four or five students emerged from of the house and a confrontation ensued. "The non-student ended up getting hit with a baseball bat," McCarthy said.
The visitor was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he received nine stitches near his right eye, eight stitches inside his lip and five stitches outside of his mouth. Part of one of his teeth was broken.
The incident is under investigation by both TUPD and the Dean of Students' Office.
Male, sans trousers, discovered in Capen House
On Sat., Feb. 25 at 11:10 a.m., TUPD received a report of an "unidentified male standing in the front hall" of Capen House at 8 Professors Row, the Africana Unit, McCarthy said.
The male was standing in the foyer of the building with his pants pulled down around his ankles. The female student who saw him reported that "he told her he needed to use the bathroom," McCarthy said.
She let him into the building, but the intruder would have been unable to access most of the rest of the building without fob access.
The student promptly left the building and went to the campus center but did not report the incident for over an hour.
When TUPD arrived, there was no trace of the man. "We went through the whole building anyhow just to check, asked students, but no one saw anything," McCarthy said.
Repeat locker room trespasser intrudes on same woman
At 2:48 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 25, a woman reported that a man had joined her in the women's locker room in Cousens Gymnasium.
This same woman had reported a male intruder in the same locker room on Sun., Jan. 29 around 6 p.m. At that time, she described him as a white male around 18 to 22 years of age with short, dark hair. After the second event, she stated that it was the same man.
In January, the woman reported that she thought she saw a camera lens, indicating that they suspect might have been carrying a video camera.
She did not, however, see a camera this time. The woman also did not think this man is following her.
"She called right away, but he had run out through the back door," McCarthy said. TUPD conducted a search of the entire building and the surrounding streets with no success.
The security guards at the gym have been notified and told to be particularly watchful.
The guards do a "good job," McCarthy said, but the other gymnasium doors remain unwatched. Even if these doors are locked, those leaving may still permit others to enter.
