Following a week in which Tufts spring sports teams went 11-0, including a perfect 6-0 against visiting Trinity this weekend, two Jumbos have been recognized with NESCAC Player of the Week nods.
Freshman Clem McNally nabbed the men's lacrosse nod, the first for the Tufts men's team this season. The rookie launched an offensive blitz that included eight goals in his first two career starts.
Coming off two consecutive league losses and three defeats in their last four games, the team needed a jolt, and McNally delivered.
He racked up three goals against No. 17 Western New England on Tuesday and followed this performance with a career-high five goals - including the game-winner in double overtime - against No. 13 Bates on Saturday. With McNally's contributions on the field, Tufts improved its record to 9-4 and remains in contention for a home field berth in the conference tournament.
On the diamond, senior centerfielder Jim O'Leary earned NESCAC co-Player of the Week (alongside Bowdoin's shortstop Chris McCann) as a result of his dominant offensive performances in Tufts' four victories last week.
O'Leary went 10-for-16 on the week with six doubles, six RBI and three walks that helped the Jumbos regain their footing after dropping their previous seven games. Additionally, he fielded all nine of his chances in the field cleanly to maintain his flawless fielding percentage.
A stalwart in the three-hole for most of the season, O'Leary leads his teammates by a significant margin in the major offense categories: batting average (.479), slugging percentage (.740) and on base percentage (.563).
