Sophomore Marlee Kutcher had a pretty good week.
The field hockey team, on which Kutcher starts at sweeper, won its season opener, 4-1, over NESCAC rival Colby. Kutcher scored the first two goals of her college career and added an assist for a team-leading five points.
And yesterday, she became Tufts field hockey's first NESCAC Player of the Week since Oct. 4., 2004.
After a freshman season in which she saw playing time in only nine games, Kutcher earned a starting spot this season, replacing departed senior Erika Goodwin at sweeper. She also moves up to offense during the team's penalty corners, where she scored both her goals on Saturday.
Her first tally, a redirected shot from freshman Emma Kozumbo, evened the score at one and sparked the Jumbos, who were slow out of the gate against the Mules. Her final shot created the final 4-1 score and pounded home a resounding opening-day win by the Jumbos on their home turf.
