Students should have a Ball selecting music

Students can get a taste of the DJ life before this year's fourth annual Fall Ball, this Friday evening.

The event, a dance for all four undergraduate classes, will take place from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Gantcher Center.

"Just like in any business, the fourth year is the time when you really have the chance to make it an event like you've never seen before," Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate President Mitch Robinson said.

GrooveBoston, an independent DJ and event production company, will provide the music and will this year include a feature on their Web site allowing students to request their favorite tunes before the dance.

The Web site is www.grooveboston.com/tufts_fallball2006/.

Robinson said the company, which has been involved with Fall Ball for the past three years, is very responsive to the needs and requests of students.

"We found that oftentimes the DJs that were selected didn't represent the student body," he said. "We thought that it would be a good thing to have students pick the songs rather than have a DJ who may not be as familiar with the [student] body."

The theme for this year's Ball is "Rest Up," which Robinson said reflects his goal of bringing the entire student body together for a relaxing event reminiscent of a club experience.

In the past, Fall Ball has been one of the best attended events of the year. Last year, it attracted about 3,400 students. This year Robinson is hoping for more.

"It's the largest turnout for students in the first semester, and probably the first time when the majority of the student body is all together," he said.

"We're encouraging everybody to be safe, but also to have a great time there," he added.
