From the Editor-in-Chief | Columns return with plenty of familiar faces

Make new friends, but keep the old, as the saying goes; the Daily has wisely observed this adage in column selection this semester. This spring's columns line up is one for the books, with a number of experienced columnists returning even as talented new ones emerge.

Rounding out a distinguished career, the Daily Townie Pete McKeown graces the Daily's pages for his third and final semester to impart his insightful last words on Medford. Joining him in Features is veteran Kate Peck, one of last semester's "Broads Abroad"; she's back on the hill and back on your back with her new health column, "Wealth and Hellness." Junior Adam Winograd, a newcomer, completes the section with his decidedly real perspective on the surreal abroad experience, sharing his idle and "Eiffel Thoughts" on the City of Light.

For a scathing look at American culture, look no further than the Arts section, where sophomore Devin Toohey again dons his crown as the true King of Pop and nobly notifies us "When Pop Culture Goes Bad." Sophomore Mikey Goralnik busts on to the scene with his new live music column, soon to be the bible of the concert-going set, "Paint the Town Brown."

Viewpoints, as always, features columns as diverse as the Tufts student body itself. Sophomore Daniel Halper shares a conservative point of view every Monday with his new column, "A Southerner Opines." Daily reporter and junior Jamie Bologna dispatches from the capitol with "D.C. in a Box," bringing that hill much closer to our own. Man, it's awkward as senior Neil Padover returns with his humorous take on social interaction, while freshman Olivia Teytelbaum continues to face her fears and ours with "PhobiaPhiles."

Sports brings back not one, not two, but five veteran columnists. All-star senior Andrew Bauld shows us that "You Can't Steal First" with his unique take on sports and sports culture. Sophomore Evans Clinchy loves that "Dirty Water" and all of Boston's teams. Sophomore Matt Kaufman reprises his "A Happy Recap"; classmate Matt Mertens covers eclectic topics with his column "Freelancer." Freshman Will Herberich brings us "Big Hitter, The Llama" for a second time - so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

Keep an eye on the columnists this semester, because they will certainly be keeping an eye on us.
