With her record-breaking three-pointer in Friday's 61-50 win over Middlebury, senior Valerie Krah grabbed the NESCAC spotlight, earning her team's third NESCAC Player of the Week recognition this season. Junior Khalilah Ummah was selected for the award on Dec. 11 and Jan. 15.
In her last year donning the brown and blue, Krah has stepped up as an offensive force from outside, leading the team in scoring with an average of 14.3 points per game. But it has been the timing of those shots that have made her so indispensable on the offensive end.
Facing the possibility of their first NESCAC loss on Jan. 27, the Jumbos turned to Krah as the clock wound down against Wesleyan. With 7.6 seconds remaining, Krah nailed a three from the left baseline to hand her team a thrilling 50-48 victory. The three tied her with Carrie Hironoka for the Tufts all-time three-pointer lead, setting her up to hit her 127th three and break the record on Friday evening.
Over the weekend, Krah compiled some of the most impressive games of her career offensively. On Senior Day against Williams Saturday, the Tufts point guard led her team to a come-from-behind victory with 18 points and seven assists. Against Middlebury the previous evening, Krah tallied a career-high 21 points, in addition to pulling down seven rebounds and doling out four assists.
Such performances have propelled her to the top of the league in points, steals and three-pointers.
With two games left in the regular season, Krah and company hope to extend their seven-game winning streak in the NESCAC against Bowdoin, the No. 2 team in the nation, on Friday and Colby on Saturday.
