After a lackluster performance last weekend at the Yale Round Robin, the men's squash team got just what they needed on Friday in the NESCAC tournament, as they faced off against the No. 28 Wesleyan Cardinals.
The Jumbos stormed into NESCACs, blanking the Cardinals in a 9-0 win, which improved their record to 8-6 this season.
The entire lineup breezed through its matches, with all but one being decided in three-straight games. Senior co-captain Dan Karlin had the quickest match of the afternoon, defeating his opponent, Wesleyan junior Devin Gorman-DaRif, in three-straight games, and dropping only two points in his 9-0, 9-2, 9-0 win.
Junior co-captain Jake Gross won his second-straight match, bringing his record to 4-2 over the past six matches. Gross, playing as usual in the No.1 spot, had handily defeated Wesleyan freshman Robert Broadfoot 9-3, 9-3, 9-4.
Sophomore Chris Delaney, playing in the No. 2 spot, extended his winning streak to six-straight games after his win against junior Evan Lodge. He easily won the first two games, surrendering only three points, but lost the third by a two-point margin. He recovered, however, to win the fourth and final game in his 9-2, 9-1, 7-9, 9-6 win.
With the Wesleyan win behind them, the Jumbos then took on No. 9 Bates. The Jumbos had previously fallen to the Bobcats earlier this season, 6-3. Unfortunately for the Jumbos, however, Saturday's match was even more lopsided as they suffered an 8-1 loss. The sole win for the Jumbos came from freshman Scott Leighton in the No. 7 spot.
