Asian/Asian American literary magazine Voices releases new issue
Voices, Tufts' only publication centered on the experiences of Asian and Asian American students, has released its first issue of the year. Last night, students celebrated the release of the magazine with an open mic event hosted by Tufts Asian Student Coalition (TASC) in the Curtis Hall Multi-Purpose Room.

Tufts Republicans recently submitted a proposal to Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate for funding to bring Ben Shapiro, a conservative political commentator and former editor for Breitbart News, a far-right online publication founded in 2007. The Senate debate on the funding request was scheduled for Oct. 29, but the Tufts Republicans requested that the debate be postponed to enable them to further prepare, according to the group's president George Behrakis.
Health Service expands resources for student smokers to quit
Tufts Health Service will expand its cessation and education resources for students seeking to quit smoking as soon as this semester, according to Ian Wong, director of the Department of Health Promotion and Prevention. Wong said the resources available to students will include stress reduction workshops, smoking cessation classes and nicotine replacement therapies.

Jose Antonio Vargas questions national identity in discussion of social change
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas spoke to an audience filled with Tufts and Boston area college and high school students on Thursday during "Activism and Social Change: An Evening with Jose Antonio Vargas," co-sponsored by the Social Justice Leadership Initiative, the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer and the Dean of Student Affairs. In his speech, Vargas, who also directed, wrote and appeared in a documentary entitled, "White People," connected his own complicated identity to issues of race and immigration in the United States.
Tufts Labor Coalition demands that university engage in union-only hiring
About 40 students gathered on the Lower Patio of the Mayer Campus Center yesterday afternoon to rally, calling on Tufts to stop using non-unionized building trade workers on the Medford/Somerville campus.
