A U.S. District Court in Boston sentenced Arijit Kumar Chowdhury (M '00), a graduate of Tufts' School of Medicine, to 364 days in prison, two years of supervised release, and deportation to his native India on Tuesday, April 19.

Several hundred students attended Health Services' annual "Spring Oasis" event Wednesday in the Cousens Gymnasium. The event focused on presenting students with ways to relax, unwind and reduce stress. Free massages, Tai chi, pilates and yoga demonstrations all took place.

As the weather gets warmer and while classes come to an end, the big finals push begins and seniors scramble to find jobs, award ceremonies are in abundance. On April 13, twelve recipients of The Presidential Award for Citizenship and Public Service were honored for their commitment to active citizenship, leadership and public service. I thought it would be a fitting end to my column to highlight some of the best examples of social entrepreneurship at Tufts.

We write to correct an inaccuracy portrayed by Mark Phillips' March 28 Viewpoint ("Lessons from Tufts"). Mr. Phillips implies that disclosure of underage alcohol use at Health Services or at a hospital will lead to disciplinary referral, either mandatory counseling or a reprimand from the Dean of Students' office.

The prisoners of Guantanamo Bay were given a glimmer of hope yesterday when a federal judge ruled that they can challenge their imprisonment in U.S. courts. Judge Joyce Hens Green also said that the military tribunals used to try the prisoners were unfair and unconstitutional. This ruling is a vital reinforcement of the Supreme Court ruling that prisoners can contest their incarceration, and it brings the detainees under U.S. constitutional law.
