TCF responds to defacing of the cannon

For Christians, the celebration of Easter is a time to reflect on the cornerstone of our faith: the ultimate forgiveness that we believe we have been freely given. In response to the defacing incident that occurred at the cannon last Saturday night, I speak for all of the members of Tufts Christian Fellowship in saying that we sincerely hope that the students who were involved feel nothing but blessed this week.

U.S.-India nuclear agreement has advantages

In a time when the United States-Iran nuclear dispute remains one of the most polemical topics on the international scene, passing a nuclear deal with another developing nation seems like an ironic decision to make. Yet this is exactly what Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged members of Congress to do earlier this month.

Students at the 11 NESCAC member institutions may soon have one more avenue for trash-talking - not in the packed gymnasiums and athletic stands spread across New England, but from the comfort of their very own desk chair.

Campus Comment | A protest without words

On Apr. 26, not a word will be heard from half a million students nationwide. For the tenth consecutive year, the Day of Silence will quiet supporters of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender rights in a project coordinated by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and the United States Student Association (USSA) to promote equality and acceptance for members of the LGBT community.

Despite moving up and down the East Coast during her childhood, transitioning from a Delaware boarding school to a New England elite liberal arts college, and anticipating her graduation, Williams senior Lindsay Payne may never know what it's like to feel like a fish out of water.

Special Report, Part IV | Miller the Martyr?

A big part of New York Times reporter Judith Miller's discrediting, in the minds of Boston-based media lawyers Rob Bertsche and Sheldon Toplitt, was her apparent willingness to fudge the truth to get the scoop. Bertsche says he was particularly troubled by the fact that Miller "had, at least preliminarily, agreed to identify Libby as, what was it? 'A former Congressional staffer.'" (Not only was Libby a current and not former staffer; he was also a White House and not Congressional staffer.)

Letter to the Editor | Praise for election article, disagreement with editorial

I want to commend your staff for a well researched article in yesterday's Daily. ("What you need to know about the candidates for TCU president") Too often, student body elections seem only about catchy slogans and decorative chalkings. By meticulously laying out each candidate's platform, the Daily successfully focused the debate around the issues at hand. Moreover, the Daily did not take these plans at face value. The job of a free press is to continually examine those in authority. The Daily did a remarkable job of going to campus administrators to get their opinions, for without these views the article would be incomplete. I truly feel confident now, that with yesterday's article, the student body can make a well-informed decision on a crucial matter.

Letter to the Editor | Lyn-Shue knows how to work for you

TCU Presidents only serve for a year, but what each accomplishes remains for many years after. As a presidential candidate, I hope to have the chance to improve Tufts in many ways that will help students. I too believe that the president should be a lobbyist, but a lobbyist with focus. Being a lobbyist is only one part of being a good president. The president should also be interested in making feasible ideas happen.

Staff Top 10 | Other things we're addicted to

We've heard that today, Apr. 20 is something of a special day for drug enthusiasts. While we're not especially involved in stoner culture, we've seen an episode or two of "Being Bobby Brown," so we know what the ugly face of addiction looks like. We did some soul searching this week, and while we're not particularly prone to herbal remedies, we've realized that we are, in fact, addicted to some things. Here are 10 of them.
