Daily Townie | Friendly Fenway

What is one common thread found in any given townie? Is it that we drive horrible cars? No, that's not it, for there are too many luxury vehicles that can be stolen from nice suburbs. Do we all like to fight? No, some get too drunk for this thought even to occur, and some just aren't tough enough (yours truly). The common thread, the undeniable facet of life in Medford - and Boston in general - is that townies and Massholes from all over absolutely love the Red Sox.

The freshman 15: fear, fact or a bit of both?

The words "freshman 15" have long caused trepidation in the minds of incoming college freshmen. Students have accepted that leaving home and beginning new patterns of eating and sleeping associated with a college lifestyle may inevitably lead to a few extra pounds.

The best way to learn is to teach

For so many people, the best way to learn is to teach, which is why I'm always so surprised at the lack of teaching opportunities most universities offer to undergraduates. The most teaching the average college student will do is a short class presentation or a tutoring job on the side.

A close encounter of the Bonaduce kind

When Tufts senior Megan* headed to Boston on the last Saturday night of February to celebrate a friend's birthday, she didn't expect to run into a former member of the Partridge family. (Let alone one whose 2001 autobiography is entitled "Random Acts of Badness.")

Campus Comment | Would you take a 'happiness' class?

"Probably, but I'd have to read the exact description first. If it would teach me to be happy, yeah, I'd take it. But now that I think about it, I guess I don't want a class to teach me to be happy." - Carolyn Chmielewski, Sophomore

Weekender Interview | Paul McGuigan

Paul McGuigan was in the pub when fellow Scot Irvine Welsh of "Trainspotting" fame sold him on "The Acid House," the short story trilogy that became McGuigan's directorial debut in 1998. Jill Harrison | Traveling Lush

As we all know, a night of drinking can have its negatives: drama, tears, belligerence, misplaced belongings, major overshares, ill-advised hook-ups, iller-advised drunk dials and vomit. The Lush saw a lot of vomit last weekend.

Damn the Man, and skip the 'Empire'

In their breakthrough 2001 album, "Underground Network," Anti-Flag took a solid stance against corporate media and put their ideas to catchy tunes, creating some of the most popular politically-charged music of the last five years; their latest effort, "For Blood and Empire" is more of the same, but under a shiny, new corporate label.

Men's Tennis | Tennis squad suffers two tough losses

Two matches, one on the road and one at home, resulted in a pair of losses for the Tufts men's tennis team. The Jumbos fell to No. 6 Williams and No. 4 Middlebury on Saturday and Friday, respectively, and the nationally-ranked NESCAC talent proved too difficult a challenge for the Jumbos to overcome.

Kristy Cunningham | Out of Thin Air

For many seniors, the quickly approaching graduation date means one of three things. You will either a) finally have the chance to break free of the academia that has ruled your existence since you were in diapers and begin your real life saving the world and making millions of dollars, b) continue on to grad school in an attempt to avoid the harsh reality of actually growing up, or c) take your liberal arts degree and march dutifully into the abyss.
