Bike share program to extend to Somerville

Boston's new bike−share program will expand to the City of Somerville this spring. New Balance Hubway, which debuted in Boston in late July, will feature bike−renting kiosks at several popular local destinations, including Davis Square.

In fall 2010, still green behind the ears, I became aware that many students supported establishing a department of Africana studies with a fully resourced undergraduate major. I heard repeatedly that other institutions, such as Brown and Harvard, had strong and vibrant departments. But Tufts did not; indeed we were not growing, we were not renowned. In fact, our current minor was under-resourced. What did that say about Tufts' commitment to academic diversity and inclusion?

Africana studies major incoming, Dean says

In response to a recently reemerging student demand for a change in the university's race and ethnic studies offerings, and specifically calls for an Africana studies department, Dean of Arts and Sciences Joanne Berger-Sweeney today announced plans to develop a new academic program offering study tracks in a wide variety of race and ethnic concentrations.

Prices of campus parking permits rise

The price of Tufts Medford campus parking permits has increased by approximately 10 percent for the 2011-2012 academic year in order to better cover the cost of running the campus parking facilities, according to Vice President for Operations Dick Reynolds.

U.S. Department of the Treasury appoints Metcalf to post

Tufts Professor of Economics and environmental policy expert Gilbert Metcalf on June 1 was tapped as the new head of the U.S. Department of the Treasury's energy office, replacing former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment and Energy William Pizer.
