Concert Board made its final decision yesterday on which Tufts bands will battle it out to share the Spring Fling stage with the Tufts musicians-turned-rock-stars Guster. Redshift 6, The Dumplings, Monkey Hands, Nico Juber, Face First, and MARUN were selected from a pool of about 20 applicants to participate in this year's Battle of the Bands.
"We are very, very excited about it. We feel like we can put on a good show, and we feel like we're deserving of the spot," said Adam Ross of Redshift 6. "It's an honor to be selected. We've been really psyched and we're working hard."
Selections were made based on the groups' demo tape submissions. Concert Board held listening sessions, then took a group vote. The six bands with the most votes advanced to the second round, which left the remainder of the candidates disappointed.
"I've had a band together for a couple of years. We've played some serious gigs and we were looking forward to getting heard," said Ethan Schwartz of Junction. "But music is one of things where not everybody loves you, and that's just the way the game is played."
The six finalists will perform on the Hotung Café stage on March 31, where they will present 15 minutes of their best music in competition for the coveted opening act at Spring Fling.
