Senior Dave Patterson was the only member of the men's track team to qualify for the Division III Nationals that were held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin this past weekend. Patterson qualified in both the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters, placing fifth in the 1500 and 14th in the 5000.
Patterson's time of 3:57.26 in the 1500 preliminaries gained him a trip to the finals where he bettered his time by more than five seconds to finish with a time of 3:53.10. Patterson finished ninth in the 1500 at last year's Nationals.
Patterson's time in the 5000 at Nationals (15:33.34) was considerably slower than the time that qualified the senior Jumbo for nationals (14:52.37). A likely reason for this drop in time was the rigorous schedule of the weekend. The 1500 preliminaries occurred at 5p.m. on Friday and the 5000 race took place just two hours later.
