If you are an IR major, you probably know by now that John Jenke is no longer the IR Assistant Director. If you try to check out his dismissal with the powers-that-be, you're certain to hear a lot of Orwellian mumbo-jumbo about how "correct" procedures were followed.
In my four decades of academic life at Tufts (where I was a political science professor for 23 years), Columbia and Harvard, I know of no more outrageously unjust action.
I'm sure the overwhelming majority of Tufts' IR majors know that John was the heart and soul of the program. I challenge anyone at Tufts to name a person who did more for more students than John. He was admired by not just a few dozen students -- but by hundreds of them.
Aside from the intellectual loss to Tufts, it's very likely that Tufts will suffer financially. I know many former IR majors who swear that they won't give Tufts a thin dime now or in the future.
The whole matter is sad and sickening. The Tufts administration will live with this shameful action for a long, long time.
