Haskell Hallucinations have heart

In the realm of intramural soccer, the Haskell Hallucinations refuse to be a figment of your imagination. This predominantly freshman team may not be the most dominant team in the Wednesday Night Indoor League, as its record is 0-2, but it nevertheless displays a strong sense of unity and team spirit in its quest for victory.

Samantha Goldman, co-captain of the Hallucinations and the only female on the co-ed team, firmly believes in the future of her squad.

"We have strong Haskell pride," says Goldman, "and we're going to win."

The Haskell Hallucinations were created for the same reason many intramural teams are formed: A group of friends who want to participate in the sports they played in high school decide to get together and continue playing in a fun, competitive atmosphere at

college.

"Most members of the team played soccer in high school and when they were younger but chose not to play club or varsity here at Tufts," Goldman said. "But it's great just to hang out with friends and go back to the games you played as a child. It's just really fun."

The process of signing up for the team was informal and open to any resident of Haskell Hall. Goldman and co-captain Alexander Sultan-Khan sought out anyone who would be interested in getting together to play games once a week.

"We went around Haskell," Goldman said, "and just asked if anyone wanted to play."

The Hallucinations are made up of about eight players, though the numbers fluctuate as new players show up for different games. They practice on various afternoons during the week, but the practices are always optional. The team plays every Wednesday night on the indoor fields at the Gantcher Center. On Sept. 21, the Hallucinations lost to Everton FC 17-2. On Sept. 28, they also lost to Title.

The Haskell Hallucinations play Suite Stuff this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on Field Three at the Gantcher Center. If the Hallucinations secure this victory, they will know that their spirit and determination has paid off.

Six additional games were played on Oct. 5. T. Awesome played Everton FC, Burdlobster played Ozone, Title played Dearborn, The Bears played Sig Ep, and Dem Apples played Schuster.

In the Tuesday Indoor League, Zeta Psi has a 1-0-1 record, Rufio is 0-2, Simon from England is 1-0, FC International is 1-0-1, Extreme Team is 2-0, the Metcalf Mutilators are 0-2, JEFCs are 0-1, and the Tuft Guys are 1-0.

In the Monday Indoor League, the Ol' Wren Boys & Co. is 0-1, FC International is 1-0, and Dem Apples are 1-0 by forfeit.

Scores for other intramurals are as follows: In volleyball, many close games have been played so far. On Sept. 21, the Mutant Babies beat Zuena 2-1, Olmo routed the Puerto Rican DT 2-1, Big Freshie destroyed TUFTS 2-0, and the Isotopes defeated the Spanish Armada 2-0.
