Thursday's Top Ten - Streaks

In honor of the Patriot's attempt to break the unofficial (because it covers both regular and postseason) record for consecutive wins this weekend, the Daily has put together a list of some of the most memorable sports streaks of all time. And they are

10. Tim Whelan's alma mater Acton-Boxboro's Mass. state record 41-game win streak in high school football.

9. Wayne Gretzky's 51 game point streak.

8. Boston Celtics' 8 consecutive NBA titles from 1959-1966.

7. University of North Carolina women's soccer team's 103-game unbeaten streak from 1986-1990.

6. Orel Hershiser pitching 59 consecutive scoreless innings in 1989. (For all you math whizzes, that's equivalent to just over 6.5 scoreless complete games.)

5. Eric Gagne's 84 consecutive saves.

4. UCLA's 7 straight NCAA men's basketball titles from 1967-1973.

3. Cal Ripken Jr. playing in 2,632 consecutive games between 1982 and 1988.

2. Joe DiMaggio hitting safely in 56 straight games in 1941.

1. The Chicago Cubs' 96-year World Series Championship drought. They haven't won since 1908. (Yes, Red Sox fans, another team has it worse than even you.)
