Say it loud

Members of the 180-person "Introduction to Electrical Engineering" class tested the woof and tweet of their home-made loud speakers last night in Halligan Hall.

The class of sophomore engineering students (sophomore TA Joe Brassard, right) worked in groups of up to three people to produce more than 60 speakers "with a few pieces of magnets and a piece of insulated wiring as a design project," said Professor Mohammed Afsar of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The engineers tested their creations throughout the week and the final round will occur today in Anderson Hall at 2 p.m. The contest for the best speaker is sponsored by the greater Boston chapter of the Acoustical Society of America. The winners will receive a $200 prize.

Matt Moore, national chairman of the Acoustical Society of America, and his associates Jeff Fullerton and Andy Harvey will attend today's event. The prize will be awarded by Dr. Arthur Winston, director of the Gordon Institute, at the Institution of Electronic and Electrical Engineers holiday party tomorrow.
