Members of the senior class will dress in costume and head to Tequila Rain, a club near Fenway Park, this Thursday for the second pub night of the semester.
The 700 available tickets for the first pub night at Gypsy Bar in Boston earlier this month sold out within seven hours, according to Senior Class Council Vice President of Social Programming Hilary Ludlow.
Seniors can purchase tickets for this Thursday's event starting today at noon through the Tufts Tickets website, according to Senior Class Council President Victor Wang.
Ludlow said the same amount of tickets will be available for the Halloween pub night because capacity constraints at many bars in Boston range from 500 to 700 people. The council anticipates that tickets for the Halloween pub night will sell out quickly.
"We looked up how many people in the class of 2013 are 21, and it turns out it's almost 1,000. We judged [the ticket number on that], so we just did 700," Ludlow said.
Senior Class Council Secretary SharonneHoltzman and Ludlow said the council received positive feedback from both seniors and administrators after the first pub night this year.
"Last pub night there were no incidents, so we hope that this next pub night will continue with this trend," she said.
According to Ludlow, Gypsy Bar enjoyed hosting the class of 2013 for the first pub night.
"[Pub night] gets the bar a lot of revenue -- somewhere around $1,500 worth of revenue," she said. "I think that's a huge draw for them, and as long as no one's being destructive to the property and no one's being disrespectful, which I don't think anyone was, then overall [the bar] can't really have any complaints."
The only criticism about the event from students, according to Wang and Ludlow, regarded the bar's drink prices, which started at $9.
"Some of the feedback we heard was that pub night at Gypsy Bar was good, but we might want to look at venues that might have cheaper drinks because in Boston they don't really do drink specials or anything of that nature," Wang said.
"I think the fact that drinks were so expensive might have contributed to the fact that no one got super hammered," Ludlow added.
An email explaining behavioral expectations at the bar was sent to each of the 700 students who purchased tickets for the last pub night, according to Wang.
"Really, there's nothing you can do to control the behavior of 700 individual students," he said. "You have to hope for the best that there are no bad eggs in there, but it seemed for the most part that everyone was very courteous and respectful and there weren't any incidents like in past years."
One such incident occurred at the 2010 Halloween pub night, also at Tequila Rain, when a pepper spray-like substance was released into the air above the dance floor, causing students to rush out of the bar. Another Senior Pub Night in April 2011 came to a premature end when one student set off a fire extinguisher at the Boston bar Ned Devine's.
"It's unfortunate because it reflects poorly on future senior events," Ludlow said. "We called Ned Devine's and can't go there anymore for a pub night. They said, 'You're too rowdy and it's not going to work,' and we have to respect that because, at the end of the day, it's their business and [the decision is at] their discretion."
The council has planned two more pub nights for the spring semester, as well as a senior pub trivia night in Hotung Cafe, where students will be able to purchase Hotung's beer and enjoy campus pub culture, Ludlow explained.
