"Tisch Talks in the Humanities: Generative Empathies"

Details: Director of the Cultural Agents Initiative at Harvard University Doris Sommer will join Amahl Bishara, assistant professor of anthropology and Peter Levine, Tisch College associate dean for research in a discussion on the meaning and use of empathy, especially with regard to current discourses on the concept.

"Bil'in 10 Years On: Popular Struggle & Popular Media"

Details: Iyad Burnat, the coordinator of the Popular Committee of Bil'in, a Palestinian town in the West Bank, will discuss his non-violent resistance activism in support of Bil'in. The event will also feature scenes from Burnat's brother's film, "Five Broken Cameras" (2011), as well as photography from Bil'in.

"Being Black Ain't So Bad: Dominicanas Negotiating Race and Belonging Across the Atlantic"

Details: Lorgia García Peña, assistant professor of Romance languages and literatures and of history and literature at Harvard University, will speak. García Peña co-founded Freedom University in Atlanta, Ga., a school that provides education and college preparation assistance to undocumented students.

"Contested Normality: Palestinian Citizens under the Israeli Land Regime"

Details: Suhar Bishara, director of the Land and Planning Rights Unit, Adalah, at the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, will discuss Palestinian life in Israel, focusing on the case of Palestinian Bedouins in the Naqab desert.
