All university campuses will be closed from Sunday at 12 p.m. through Monday due to a winter storm expected to blanket much of North America this weekend, the university announced Saturday evening.
“This means classes and other on-campus activities may be canceled, but essential operations will continue as usual,” the university stated in the announcement. “If you are not required to be on campus, please refrain from coming to campus until it reopens.”
Several schools, including the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, stated on their websites that classes were not expected to meet while campus is closed and added that instructors should be in contact with students about makeup sessions or virtual instruction.
Snowfall is expected to begin Sunday morning and continue into Monday, with 12-22 inches forecast to accumulate in parts of the Greater Boston area. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for states from Texas to Maine, with Massachusetts and the municipalities of Boston, Medford, Somerville and Grafton declaring snow emergencies this week. Wind chills are expected to drop below zero, with temperatures reaching the single digits.
The Fresh at Carmichael and Dewick-MacPhie Dining Centers are expected to remain open throughout the closure, according to the School of Arts and Sciences website.
The university advised students to consult school and division websites for additional information about classes and other activities.
