All university campuses will close for the second time in a month — from 8:00 p.m. on Sunday through Monday — as a severe winter storm moves across the East Coast, with some areas under blizzard warnings.

“This means classes and other on-campus activities may be canceled, but essential operations will continue as usual,” the university stated in the announcement. “If you are not required to be on campus, please refrain from coming to campus until it reopens.”

Multiple schools, including the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, announced on their websites that classes would not be held during the campus closure. They also noted that faculty members were expected to communicate with students regarding rescheduling classes or the possibility of remote instruction.

Fresh at Carmichael and Dewick-MacPhie Dining Centers will open late on Monday at 11:00 a.m. All other dining locations will remain closed. The Tisch Library, including the Tower Café, closed today at 3:00 p.m.

The university is prohibiting parking in all lots and on-street spaces across campus and advising the community to move cars to the Dowling Hall Garage.

Snowfall, which is expected to begin in the Boston area on Sunday night and continue into Monday, is forecast to reach between 18 inches and 25 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

All Medford and Somerville public schools are set to close due to the storm. Both cities and Boston declared snow emergencies, with restrictions on parking, sidewalk clearing and trash collection.
