Tufts admitted 10% of applicants to the Class of 2030, half a percentage point down from the prior year, according to data released by the university on Friday. The final set of decisions was released yesterday evening.
The University received 36,000 applications, a record high, with the greatest number of transfer applications and QuestBridge matches as well.
Students in the Class of 2030 with families earning less than $150,000 will be the first to attend Tufts tuition-free following the announcement of the Tufts Tuition Pact last September.
“This policy strengthens and clarifies our commitment to making Tufts affordable for admitted students,” Duck said. “We meet the full demonstrated financial need of all admitted students, regardless of citizenship. Tufts is one of a relatively small number of U.S. universities that make that commitment.”
About 15% of admitted students are also eligible for the Pell Grant, a federal grant awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional financial need.
In a year of uncertainty for international students nationwide, 10% of admitted students are international, representing more than 60 countries. The Daily reported in November that the share of international students fell from 15% to 14% between fall 2024 and fall 2025. Data from the class of 2029 stated that 11% of students were international and represented more than 70 countries.
Fifty-six percent of admitted students currently attend public high schools, a slight increase from last year’s 55%. Eleven percent of admitted students will be the first in their families to attend college. More than 80 students were admitted from Tufts’ host communities of Medford, Somerville, Boston and Grafton.
This year, Tufts expanded its reach, with a fifth of the incoming class coming from high schools that had not had a student admitted to Tufts in the last five years, if ever, and 23% of high schools represented in the applicant pool not having sent an application to Tufts in the same time frame.
Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Texas were the states with the most admitted students, with Texas seeing the highest number ever.
The Class of 2030 contains a wide range of interests, with top areas of academic focus being biology, international relations, mechanical engineering, economics, political science, biomedical engineering, cognitive and brain sciences, computer science and interdisciplinary art.
In addition to the Tufts Tuition Pact, Duck believes that a major factor attracting applicants was Tufts’ success in NCAA Division III athletics, including their four national championships this year.
While Tufts remains test-optional, the admissions office saw an increase in score submission this year, with 55% of applicants and 75% of admitted students submitting SAT or ACT scores.
