Last September, Olivia Rodrigo’s sophomore album “GUTS” (2023) brought everyone’s favorite angsty pop-punk artist back into the spotlight. With hits like “vampire” and “get him back!,” Rodrigo’s songs were inescapable on social media, the radio and your post-breakup friend’s headphones. Over six months later, Rodrigo has released her deluxe version of the album, titled “GUTS (spilled),” featuring five new songs, four of which were previously featured as “secret tracks” on vinyl editions of “GUTS,” as well as one brand new track.

Twenty-five years ago, on Feb. 1, 1999, Stephen Chbosky introduced the world to a character named Charlie through a series of letters in the phenomenal coming-of-age novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” “Perks” tackles themes of love, sexuality, abuse, mental health and much more. The novel captures many of the struggles of a teenager, and while it can be intense at times, its relatability is what has allowed it to remain a must-read for teenagers 25 years later.

Back in 2014, “1989” changed pop music and Taylor Swift’s career in unimaginable ways. The album marked Swift’s shift from country singer to fully-fledged pop star, and the album was both a critical and commercial success, earning her three Grammys, three No. 1 Hot 100 hits and a world tour that grossed over $250 million. Her re-recording of the album, “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” (2023), a continuation of Swift’s efforts to reclaim her stolen work, is no different and has once again proven to be a huge success.

On Oct. 4, The Hollywood Reporter released its “50 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century (So Far).” THR restricted the list to English-language shows that aired episodes after Dec. 31, 1999. Some of the shows on this list are pleasant surprises, like “Avatar: The Last Airbender” (2005–2008) at No. 49, while others are more “How did this get here?” moments, like “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (2015–2018) at No. 37. Nevertheless, it is almost impossible to imagine how some shows did not end up in the top 50 or even in their honorable mentions. Here are three of those shows:

When Demi Lovato released her album “HOLY FVCK” in Aug. 2022, she bid adieu to her traditional pop style and migrated to the world of rock. While embarking on a tour for the album, Lovato began to reimagine her older pop songs, performing rock covers of some of her classics like “Heart Attack” (2013) and “Cool for the Summer” (2015). The fans seemed to love the new rock versions of the songs, which inspired Lovato to record and release them in “Revamped” (2023).

The sophomore slump — the fear that your second album will not live up to the hype or be as successful as your first — is always a concern within the music industry. But with Olivia Rodrigo’s new album “GUTS” (2023), which was released on Sept. 8, she can take a breath as the album is just as good, if not better, than “Sour” (2021). Prior to the full album’s release, Rodrigo was already breaking records, becoming the youngest artist to have three No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the only artist in the chart’s history to have the lead singles from her first and second album debut at No. 1. After listening to the full album, it is clear that Rodrigo’s musical growth is something to be admired and the record-breaking and praise is well deserved.

There’s something about Lollapalooza that attracts thousands of attendees every year and stands out among other festivals like Coachella and The Governor’s Ball. Perhaps it’s the ease of getting to the festival, which takes place right in the heart of the city, or maybe it’s the diverse lineup which includes artists from a wide range of genres. It is safe to say Lollapalooza is a unique festival and one that all music lovers should experience at least once in their lives. The immense talent of the artists who take the stage at Lollapalooza is undeniable, but this year, two artists stood out.

With all this attention on Lagerfeld, his problematic history has risen to the forefront of the debate about whether or not he should be receiving these honors and high praises.

Gracie Abrams is not an artist who shies away from painful truths. No, she pours her heartache into her music. With her debut EP “minor” (2020), Abrams introduced the world to her poetic lyricism and innate storytelling abilities with hits like “I miss you, I’m sorry” and “21.” A year later, she followed up with her second EP “This Is What It Feels Like” (2021), accompanied by her first tour, where avid fans could see the rising star live. Now, Abrams has graced the world with her debut album “Good Riddance” (2023), which is her most intimate and reflective work thus far, though it falls short due to repetition and a lack of creativity.
