Top Ten | 'Catch' these phrases if you can

The catchphrase is one of pop culture's greatest, lasting gifts; love them or hate them, you sure as heck know them - unless you're above modern entertainment or just under a rock. TV Land cable network recently released its list of the top 100 TV catchphrases, but the Daily's Arts Department has only one thing to say: Haaave mercy. With over a quarter of the list's phrases mined from shows of the '70s and only a smattering of catchphrases from shows our generation could have seen before they were in syndication, we must humbly compile our list: the Top Ten TV Catchphrases College Students Still (Proudly) Say.

Pete McKeown | Daily Townie

I never leave Medford. It's a fact and I've learned to deal with it. However, this Thanksgiving, my family branched out, big time. Usually this sentence would be followed by a joke like, "We went south of Boston" or "The Cape counts as abroad, right?" But this year, the McKeown clan spent Thanksgiving visiting my oldest brother in London, leaving New England for the original one.

Correction

Due to a production oversight, seven lines were omitted from yesterday's Arts section's lead article entitled "There's more than 'Reasonable Doubt' about Jay-Z's motives on his 'Kingdom' comeback." The lines, all in the first paragraph, were covered by a graphic. The article appears in its entirety on the Daily's Web site, and the complete first paragraph should have appeared as follows: "Amidst hip-hop's incessant braggadocio, few rappers have as thoroughly earned their right to talk as Jay-Z. Journalists have made careers out of chronicling Shawn Carter's now 10-year tenure as an artist, from the hustler wordplay of the still-astounding "Reasonable Doubt" of 1996 (still one of the best debuts in hip-hop history) to his 2001 opus "The Blueprint" (still one of the best records in hip-hop history)."

Ideas for new projects anything but SHABby

A small group of students and staff gathered yesterday at noon around a coffee table, some sitting on mats on the floor, others on a couch or on padded chairs. Some ate their lunches and some picked Junior Mints and Dots from the candy jar in the middle of the table as they took an hour out of their day for discussion.

Don't stay home and listen to the 'Radio' - there's a Concert Board show tonight

If you've spent the entire semester eating in Dewick, it might be difficult to imagine that it could be a venue for a concert. Cold slices of pizza, lukewarm french fries, long rows of folding tables, the lady who swipes the meal cards - the day-to-day dining hall is not exactly CBGB. So it may come as a surprise that tonight Dewick dispenses with its hairnet and lets loose, hosting punk rockers Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and the reggae and folk inflected rock group State Radio. It's not by some Hogwartsian transformation that Dewick undergoes its temporary transition into a rock club, but rather through a process involving weeks of planning and behind the scenes work that may never cross a concertgoer's mind.
