Inside the NFL | NFC won't stand a chance in the Super Bowl

With Week 10 in the books, things are about to start to get a little silly in the NFL. Experts have a great time dividing the league into contenders, pretenders, and all sorts of other categories as they begin to make their playoff picks, but anyone who follows the league all year has come to the realization that the whole exercise is pretty futile.

David Cavell | Double Down

We sit here mired in the mid-November slump. The Red Sox are living up their off-season, touring Japan, getting ankle surgery, getting booed on Letterman. The Celtics are just getting rolling, and it's too early to assess them. The only thing interesting about the rest of the Patriots' regular season is whether they'll finish first or second in the AFC. At least there are always the Bruins (Drum, drum, cymbal).

Tufts student body needs to remove political blinders

If Tufts' students continue to view policy debate through thick political lenses, they risk joining the ranks of the lifelong political partisans that have divided this country. Through the EPIIC program, Fletcher School, and most impressively through the Fares Lecture, Tufts students have a very unique opportunity to hear and question policy makers from around the world.

Blame Tufts, not the fraternities

The Somerville residents who live around the Tufts campus dread the weekend. Noisy college students and parties have become a considerable nuisance for residents seeking peaceful and quiet weekend evenings. For the most part, they blame Tufts students and fraternities for all of the noise problems. Yet, to blame Tufts students and fraternities for their problems is not entirely just. It is towards the Tufts administration that Somerville should direct its opposition efforts.

Moral values in voting and in practice

Believe it or not, the crazy liberals of Massachusetts have the lowest divorce rate in the country, even though they tend to care more about secular issues such as the economy and healthcare than "moral values" when voting in a presidential election.

Death of a hero, rise of a nation?

In a statement following the death of Yasser Arafat, French President Jacques Chirac stressed the solidifying effect that loss can have on a nationalist group. "By remaining united," Chirac said of the Palestinians, "they will continue to be faithful to Yasser Arafat's memory and will uphold the ideal to which he devoted his life."

A history to be proud of

Many students on the Hill are well aware of the fact that they go to one of the leading universities in the world. Most, however, rarely consider how Tufts got to this point, instead preferring to concentrate on their few years as active Jumbos independent of University history.

Fairer than 2000?

I am writing this Viewpoint to criticize and point out errors in our election system, most specifically in the Nov. 2 election many are doing their best to forget. But let me start with a dose of reality: Bush is president for the next four years. Trust me, I don't like saying that, but it is necessary to show that investigations into the election are being done because every American deserves to have his or her vote counted and we should strive to prevent mistakes next time, not to overturn the results.

Clarification on subject of conservatives

I would like to clarify the following quote attributed to me in the Nov. 4 issue of The Tufts Daily, "We're such a highly educated country, and yet we're the most conservative country in the western industrialized world."
