Tufts Daily Support Fund Stipend Program
In partnership with the Daily Alumni Council, The Tufts Daily's Support Fund Stipend program offers three stipends per semester (two $400 stipends and one $600 stipend) to members of staff with financial need.
All applications are reviewed and all decisions will be made solely by a panel of alumni members of The Tufts Daily Alumni Council. Application information will be kept confidential by the deciding alums, and no additional alumni or students will see or have any knowledge of information shared in your application.
Apply using the following link by September 28th: https://docs.google.com/forms/...
Background: The Tufts Daily Support Fund Stipend program is intended to support members of staff who may experience financial barriers to participating fully on our paper. Working as a student journalist is a considerable time commitment, and one that may be unreasonable for students who need to earn money while being at school full time. These stipends — financed through our "Expanding Access 2023" fundraiser — aim to provide supplementary funding so that students who are interested in media but financially restricted are better able to pursue their interest through the Daily.
Eligibility: Are you...
- A Tufts undergraduate?
- Someone with financial need?
- Someone who has an interest in joining or remaining part of the Daily this semester?
If so, then you qualify! Both new and returning staff are eligible to apply, as are previous stipend recipients. No journalism experience is required, and you can be involved in the Daily in whatever capacity or section you choose. (Please note: executive editors and members of the Managing Board who are receiving work-study payments for their work with the Daily are not eligible to apply.)
Note: the application is short — all interested applicants are strongly encouraged to apply!
Requirements: To receive the full amount of the stipend, recipients must:
- Regularly attend section meetings, trainings and/or editing shifts
- Undertake several projects throughout the semester (this will vary by section — basically, be an active contributor to the Daily)
- Write a short reflection (min. 250 words) at the end of the semester, discussing how receiving the stipend supported your growth, contribution to, and experience at the Daily. This reflection will be provided to the Alumni Council and anonymous excerpts may be shared as part of fundraiser tracking and donor reporting obligations.
Payment: The stipends will be distributed in two installments: half midway through the semester and half at the end. If you're unable to meet the ongoing requirements for the stipend, you won’t receive the award.
