Back from the dead: Sox triumph over Yankees

Last night the Residential Quad was filled with euphoric hordes of Red Sox Fans. The past three times the Red Sox won, Tufts students lit a bonfire, with groups of students coming from all of the Uphill residences to celebrate. This time, however, the Uphill celebrators were joined by their Downhill peers. Smoking cigars, jumping up and down, hugging each other and roaring; they were too happy to even form words.

The chaos was rampant: People were hugging each other, perching on other people's shoulders and generally shouting as loud as is humanly possible. One person held a big burning cardboard sign aloft and the whole body of ecstatic Red Sox fans was rhythmically shouting "Yankees suck!"

According to TUPD Chief Captain Keith, no problems with the impromptu celebration were expected. When questioned, an officer on the quad confirmed that the crowd was simply celebrating. "They're happy and so are we. We won!"

Then altogether the students began marching down towards President Bacow's house yelling, "We want Bacow," more than 20 students were on the Gifford House's porch, dancing and calling for Bacow, until they were asked to step down by two TUPD officers. Just as memorably, a student stripped down to his boxer shorts and stood on a pillar of the gate next to the house.

The mass of students packed the street from below the tennis courts to Olin. It took 40 minutes for two cars stuck in the crowd to be able to move before a TUPD police officer arrived on a bike to assist them. At around 1:15 a.m. the students began to disperse, heading away in small groups.
