Mystic River project

Thursday's informative feature story written by James Ford ("New Program seeks students to help Mystic effort") had one thing worth clarifying, and a significant omission worth mentioning.

First, A Watershed Semester: Engagement Across the Mystic (AWSEAM), is a new course and internship project rather than a new program. AWSEAM will build upon an award-winning summer project known as the River Institute. We now aim to modify this intensive field-based learning model of education for active citizenship and integrate it into the spring semester in order to enhance diverse impacts of the Mystic Watershed Collaborative.

Second, AWSEAM is also designed to address recommendations of the "Task Force on the Undergraduate Experience Final Report to the Tufts Community" (May, 2003), which is why this immersive opportunity structures research and service activities for juniors and seniors, particularly, and interested Masters candidates.
