Athlete of the Week | Matt Fortin, Men's Track and Field

Blazing around the track, senior Matt Fortin finished 14th in the mile on Saturday at the St. Valentine's Invitational at Boston University, qualifying provisionally for Nationals with a time of 4:11.86.

The Raymond, Maine native set a new personal record and is currently the fifth-fastest time in the nation in the mile for Div. III. His time was well under the provisional qualifying time of 4:16.30 and was a five-second improvement from Fortin's previous personal best (4:16.83) which came last season at the Open New England Championships.

The miler was co-captain of the men's cross country team this past fall which placed fifth in the nation, the highest-ever finish by a Tufts cross country team. He was also an All American with the other members of the Distance Medley Relay team, which finished eighth at the NCAA?Championships last season. He will run either the open (non-relay) mile or the mile leg of the DMR?at the nationals next month.
