To the editor:
In Tuesday's Daily (Feb. 7, 2006), you included a newsworthy photo of a woman in Nigeria, standing in front of her farmland, which was flooded with oil from Royal Dutch Shell Company spill.
Your caption was informative, and the picture was touching. However, I question your decision to title the picture "Oil turns out to be a bad fertilizer."
In general, I think the joking titles that you assign to photographs are funny, and a nice quirk to our campus paper. In this case, though, I think you ought to have held back. The oil spills in Nigeria's Delta are tragic and disheartening, and they are destroying the livelihoods of farmers there.
The woman in the picture has had her life ruined, so don't make that a joke.
