Sheldon wins Northeast Region Coach of the Year from D3hoops.com

Bob Sheldon has been recognized as the D3Hoops.com Northeast Region Coach of the Year.

This winter, Sheldon led the men's basketball team to a school-record 23 wins and to the first NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance in the program's history.

The 23-7 record was the most wins in the 102 years of Tufts basketball, besting the 22-4 mark set in 1972-73. The season marks an astonishing turnaround from an 8-17 mark just two years ago, the worst since the 1970-71 season.

During his 18 years coaching the Jumbos, Sheldon is the all-time leader in victories with a 273-180 record.

Senior tri-captain Dan Martin, the Jumbos' leading scorer and go-to post presence for most of the season, was picked to the All-Northeast Third Team. An All-NESCAC First Team selection as well, Martin was fifth in the league in scoring (17.1 ppg), sixth in rebounding (6.9) and blocks (1.03), and fourth in field goal percentage (.564).
