Dear student body,
The Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate election for president is this Thursday, and I am writing to let you know why I will be supporting Mitch Robinson and you should too. Mitch is not only a good friend but someone I have been privileged to work with in many capacities here at Tufts. In my experience working with Mitch, the quality that stands out the most to me is the way in which Mitch is able to reach out and connect to so many different students and student groups. To me this quality is incredibly important and most needed in a TCU President.
Mitch's ability to connect can best be seen in his role organizing the Emerging Black Leaders Symposium (EBLS). Mitch raised over $50,000 for this event and even though EBLS could have put the event on themselves, Mitch recognized this as an opportunity to bring together a number of different student groups and departments.
After countless emails, visiting and talking with dozens of campus groups and meeting with various administrators, the group was able to connect over 25 different student groups and departments to sponsor this incredible symposium.
Another great example of Mitch's ability to reach out to others is in his capacity as college coordinator for Deval Patrick. When I mentioned to Mitch that I was interested in reaching out to community colleges on behalf of the College Democrats of Massachusetts, Mitch was already on top of it. He had not only made an effort to reach out to these schools with the Deval campaign, but also sent me an e-mail that very night with names and contacts of students he was working with so that we could work with them as well.
These are only two examples of how Mitch constantly impresses me with not only his involvement and experience, but also his priorities and skills as a leader. I know that Mitch will be a TCU President that reaches out to and serves all Tufts students, not just the involved. I know Mitch can take on the challenge of bringing this oftentimes fractioned campus together.
These are the things I feel are most important in a TCU President, and Mitch has shown me time and time again that he is the leader to do this. Please Vote for Mitch on Thurs., Apr. 20.
Sincerely,
Kayt Norris, Junior President of the Tufts Democrats Vice President of the College Democrats of Massachusetts
