Tufts' Elections Board (ELBO) held a candidates' meeting Mar. 30 for prospective members of the 2006-2007 Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate, Committee on Student Life (CSL) and TCU Judiciary (TCUJ).
The elections for these bodies will be held online today. Students will only be able to place votes for senators of their class year.
In a rare contested election for seven senior senate seats, eight candidates are running: David Dennis, Robert Kim, Brody Hale, Harish Perkari, Kelley Ferro, Mitchell Robinson, Andrew Caplan and Denise Lyn-Shue.
The 12 candidates for the 11 open sophomore seats are: Padden Murphy, Mose Berkowitz, Timothy Li, Joshua Wilmoth, Neil DiBiase, London Moore, Matthew Shapanka, Pooja Chokshi, Woon Young Jeong, Matthew LaPolice, Aliza Lailari and Elton Sykes.
The elections for the CSL, TCUJ and Junior Senate seats will be uncontested.
Accordingly, the members of the 2006-2007 Committee on Student Life will be Alexandra Barker, Alison Hoover and Vanessa White. Members of the 2006-2007 Tufts Community Judiciary will include Daniel Halper and Shiva Bhashyam.
Junior TCU Senators for the 2006-2007 term will be Deborah Block, Evan Dreifuss and Amanda Richardson.
At the meeting, newly-appointed ELBO members Nick Horelik, Jacob Maccoby, Anjali Nirmalan, Adam Weldai and Denise Wiseman read through the Tufts Community Union General Elections Rules and informed the candidates about election guidelines and procedures.
This election will be the first for the recently elected board.
ELBO Public Relations Coordinator Adam Weldai, a freshman, said that "with a brand-new elections board and a new election Web master from ITS [Information and Technology Services], we are sure that this election will run smoothly and be accessible to the entire Tufts community."
