Bogged down by midterms? If you're feeling too lazy to go into Boston this weekend, you just got lucky. Davis Square's own Somerville Theatre is hosting two concerts, both part of the World Music/CRASHarts performance series.
This Saturday night, Oct. 28, head to the Celtic Fiddle Fest. For only $25 you can watch three folk violinists, Kevin Burke, Andr?© Brunet and Christian LeMa?®tre play at 8 p.m. The three, all from different places, bring their backgrounds together to create a mix of Irish, French-Canadian and Breton music.
Friday, Nov. 3, be sure to catch the folk group Crooked Still perform in the same venue. This show, also $25 and beginning at 8 p.m., features the band's blend of bluegrass and old-time and contemporary folk.
Both of these shows are brought to the Somerville Theatre through the World Music/CRASHarts organization. According to the Executive Director of the program, Maure Aronson, its goal is to bring unique, one-of-a-kind performing arts musicians to places with diverse audiences with whom they can interact freely. The program, which has been around for the last 16 years, brings worldwide performance groups to communities in an attempt to explore different cultures through music and the arts.
