The volleyball team closed out its regular season this past weekend, playing the best and the worst of the NESCAC in a two-game weekend at Hamilton.
The Jumbos first defeated Hamilton, owners of an 0-10 league record, on Friday, by a 3-0 score (30-20, 30-19, 31-21), before losing to undefeated Williams, 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-21), on Saturday in a game that could have clinched them the second spot.
The weekend split brings the Jumbos to a final NESCAC record of 7-3, putting them in a four-way tie for second place in the NESCAC with Wesleyan, Amherst and Conn. College.
With all four teams knotted at 7-3, their head-to-head records will serve as tiebreakers for NESCAC Tournament seedings. Courtesy of a 3-2 win over Amherst on Sept. 16, Wesleyan will get the No. 2 seed, despite an 18-8 overall record that is the worst of the four. The Lord Jeffs earned the No. 3 seed, Tufts was dropped to fourth, and Conn. College will fill the five-seed.
Tufts will play Conn. College in the first round of the tournament on Friday, hosted by top-seeded Williams. The match-up is a rematch of the team's battle two weeks ago, in which Tufts emerged with a 3-1 victory. See Wednesday's Daily for complete coverage.
