A false fire alarm

Officers responded to a fire alarm at Latin Way at 2:03 a.m. on Nov. 13. Upon arrival, they found that a smoke detector hanging from the ceiling had set off the alarm.

The resident of the room claimed that there was a bug flying around his room. He told officers that he pulled up a chair and attempted to hit the bug with a box of crackers. While trying to hit the bug, he said he accidentally hit the smoke detector, knocking it loose.

The officers noticed a hookah in the room and could smell the faint odor of something burning. There were also two fans going. The case has been turned over the Dean's office.

Marijuana: is it in you?

The police received a complaint about a noise violation at 9094 Curtis Ave. at 3:18 a.m. on Nov. 10. An officer arrived and discovered music blaring from one of the rooms. The officer spoke to the resident and the resident turned the music down.

When the officer was leaving, however, she could smell the scent of marijuana coming from one of the rooms. She entered the room and found three people. When she questioned the students, they admitted to smoking marijuana.

She also asked them if they had any marijuana left or any other drug paraphernalia. One of the students produced a water bong made out of a Gatorade bottle, which was confiscated.
