Bare Bodkin doesn't give the usual 'Play by Play'

What is better than a free night of theater? A free night of theater times 10! Tomorrow night at the Balch Arena Theater at 8 p.m., Bare Bodkin Theatre Company presents "Play by Play," a series of 10 student-written scenes for the stage. Teaming up with Prof. Laura Harrington's "Playwriting" class, Bare Bodkin aims to showcase the original work that 10 students generated this semester.

Senior and Bare Bodkin Executive Director Leticia Frazao, who also writes for the Daily, as well as members of the Bare Bodkin Executive Board have been working with Harrington since last spring to make this event possible. Technical Director of Bare Bodkin, junior Johanna Thelin, explained, "Bare Bodkin is focused on student-written theater, so this was a great opportunity for the students in the playwriting class to have their work performed and for Tufts students to see plays that were written by their peers."

"Play by Play" features the writing talents of seniors Molly O'Neill, Stacy Davidowitz, Caitlin Johnson, Carla Dash and David Jenkins, juniors Michael Yarsky, Phillip Lobo and Rebecca Schoffer, sophomore Craig Kaufman, and freshman Luke Burns, all of whom are members of the playwriting class.

"The scenes range in subject matter from a family fight to a sleepover to a situation in the post-apocalyptic world," said Molly Yarn, Bare Bodkin campus liaison.

The Bare Bodkin Executive Board also worked to get other students involved as they recruited directors, actors and techies for each of the scenes.

"Play by Play" is just one of many events that Bare Bodkin, Tufts' student written and experimental theater company, will put on this year. With one major production and a 24-hour theatre festival each semester, "most things [we do] are low commitment," Thelin said. "This allows people who love theater but are really busy to participate."

Bare Bodkin meets on Sundays at 5 p.m. in the Zamparelli Room in the Campus Center. All theater enthusiasts are encouraged to drop by.
